Group Guitar Lessons:

Group guitar lessons are especially recommended for beginners and intermediates.

We teach our guitar lessons using a combination of activities involving The Buttery Curriculum and The Buttery Song Books which have been carefully crafted to provide consistently fun and exciting lessons while also allowing students to gain strong, in depth knowledge and skills on the guitar - from tuning and basic guitar maintenance, basic music theory, chords and timing to learning how to play songs from an array of genres including rock, pop and funk and being able to improvise. During these lessons our guitar students also have the chance to develop long lasting friendships with the other students in the group. We not only learn to play the guitar, we also learn to jam, play in time together, perform for others, gain important social skills, and more.

These lessons are taught on acoustic guitars. It is best if you bring your own guitar, but if you do not have one at first let us know and we will provide you with a nylon string guitar during lessons while you get a feel for it.

the karate belt system:

In the group lesson adventures for student under 15, The Buttery has developed a Karate Belt system for students to adventure through as they progress through the curriculum. When you first sign up, you will receive a white coloured wrist band in your induction pack. When you complete level 1, you will LEVEL UP and receive a yellow wrist band. Level 2 brings a green wristband, and so on until you reach level 9 and receive the almighty black wristband.

1 on 1 Guitar Lessons:

1 on 1 guitar lessons are especially recommended for advanced students with a focus on a particular genre or musical path, and for those who don’t work well in groups.

In 1 on 1 lessons, your guitar teacher designs a musical journey specific to you and your goals. From chords and strumming patterns, to writing originals, to learning to improvise, we are here to take you wherever you’re wanting to go. Our teachers are able to guide you in a huge variety of genres and styles including rock, pop, funk, blues, soul, country, finger picking, classical and more. Weekly and fortnightly options are available!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE BUTTERY:

Alongside music lessons, The Buttery runs a bunch of extra adventures for our rad students such as:

  • An epic talent show each year where all students have the chance to perform

  • School holiday workshops and band camps.

  • Each year we take 4 student bands up to our good friends at Tallowood Studios in Mount Glorious to record an original song they have written in their band sessions

Watch out for information on these awesome opportunities on our website, Facebook, Instagram and emails.

MIK FARNSWORTH-SEMPF

Mik graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the Jazz Music Institute in 2022. They have been playing guitar for 12 years now and enjoy various genres outside of jazz, including contemporary, classical, heavy rock, and metal to name a few. Alongside teaching guitar, Mik has a passion for composing, arranging, and performing with the Moreton Bay Big Band and other groups. Through their experience, Mik has also learnt how to play and teach standard ukulele, baritone ukulele, and banjo.

As a mentor, Mik strives to teach songs that students love to build their knowledge and to learn about their musical tastes. While students are learning their favourite songs, Mik likes keep students engaged by introducing new music that is similar to what they already know. Mik's favourite part of being a guitar teacher is when their students build a genuine love for learning music and feel just as pumped to come in for lessons as they are. Mik is super excited get to know their students and to spread the positivity and fun that music offers in their lessons!

Buttery is an amazing school. My son attended for guitar lessons and had an amazing time. The teachers are great and take the time to find common interests so they can personalize the lessons to the students. Highly recommend checking them out!
