About Group Lessons:
Group lessons are especially recommended for beginners and intermediates (though we do enjoy group lessons for advanced students too!).
We teach our group lessons using The Buttery Curriculum which ensures consistently fun and exciting lessons while also allowing students to gain strong, in depth knowledge and skills on their instrument. We have you playing to songs you love from the very start, because especially at the start, our main focus is helping you develop a love of your rad instrument!
During group lessons our students also have the chance to develop long lasting friendships with the other students in the group! We not only learn to play music, we also learn to jam, play in time together, perform for others, gain important social skills, and more.
The Karate Belt System:
For students under 15 years old, The Buttery has developed a Karate Belt system for students to adventure through as they progress through the curriculum. When you first sign up, you will receive a white coloured wrist band in your induction pack. When you complete level 1, you will LEVEL UP and receive a yellow wrist band. Level 2 brings a green wristband, and so on until you reach level 9 and receive the almighty black wristband.
About 1 on 1 lessons:
1 on 1 lessons are especially recommended for advanced students with a focus on a particular genre or musical path, and for those who don’t enjoy to learn in groups.
In 1 on 1 lessons, your Buttery teacher designs a musical journey specific to you and your goals. From theory, chords and rhythms, to writing originals, to learning to improvise, we are here to take you wherever you’re wanting to go. Weekly and fortnightly options available!
Other Opportunities at The Buttery:
Alongside music lessons, The Buttery runs a bunch of extra adventures for our rad students such as:
BUTTERFEST, the annual rock concert held each year where all students have the chance to perform
School holiday workshops, open mics and events.
The band program - once you’ve reached a certain ability, you have the chance to join a Buttery band, where you meet weekly with your band mates and mentor to learn covers, jam, write originals, play gigs and record.
Watch out for information on these awesome opportunities on our website, Facebook, Instagram and emails.

MOMO - keys teacher
Hi, I’m Momo, a mum, a piano and keyboard teacher originally from Nara, Japan, now proudly based in Brisbane. I began studying music at the age of three in Japan, completing formal exams while training in both classical and contemporary styles. I was also one of the original members of the band Luner Dirt.
Teaching has been my livelihood for many years, both from home and at various places including flexi school. I love guiding students on their musical journey and watching their confidence grow. My lessons focus on being both fun and productive, helping students build skills while enjoying music.
Outside of music, I enjoy making fermented foods, gardening, and film. An official supporter of Reforest Now.
Chelle Janse van Rensburg - singing and songwriting teacher
Chelle is a passionate songwriter and vocalist with a diverse set of skills to share. From solo performances to playing in large groups and choirs, Chelle has been immersed in music for most of her life. Over more than a decade of experience in live performance, Chelle has been refining strategies for vocal techniques both physical and psychological within the genres of jazz, RnB, folk, soul and pop. As a teacher, Chelle prioritises fostering a curious approach to confident singing. She advocates for the joy of exploration in her lessons, with a focus on imparting theoretical knowledge, enhancing technical practices, and a consciousness of the body and psyche.
Kaseko (he/him) - guitar teacher
I'm a musician with a passion for both guitar and music production! My interest in music began early on in primary school, though it wasn’t until 2020, when I started getting guitar lessons at The Buttery that I really discovered my love for it!
In 2025 I spent 6 months in a remote community in the Northern Territory where I got to share this love of music, giving guitar lessons at the community school. A fun fact about me is that I'm part Tanzanian, and I enjoy travelling back to Africa to visit extended family. I'm excited to teach at The Buttery and see the same passion and love for music that I have, grow in others!
The Buttery’s Core Values:
WE ARE HERE TO…
Foster a warm and exciting community for people of all walks of life - the misfits, the confused, the adventurous, the scared and the excited. This is a place for you to feel safe, warm, and inspired.
Help people discover their spark and to be the funkiest version of themself
Take people on a journey in music to calm, release, express, and destress
Inspire a new wave of musicians who value making music with feeling
Teach people the ethos and skills to be able to live a life as a musician
“Our son has been a student of The Buttery Music School for 5 years, starting when he was 4 years old on drums and doing keys and singing. Throughout the years they have met his need for child led learning and we’ve seen him develop his music and singing skills giving him confidence and an avenue for his self-expression. He loves being in a band as well, the joy of jamming together and preparing for a performance. Inclusive, quality teaching, with musicians who are in bands and are passionate about their students and what they can achieve. We love being part of The Buttery family. 10,000 stars!”
