ABOUT GROUP LESSONS:

Group lessons are especially recommended for beginners and intermediates.

Our singing teacher, Asha, teaches our group singing lessons using a large collection of carefully curated activities and vocal exercises as well as the Buttery Singing Curriculum and Buttery Songbooks. We also ensure that from the very start, you are practicing singing to awesome songs that you love. This approach ensures consistently fun and exciting lessons while also allowing students to understand and connect to their voice while gaining strong, in depth knowledge and singing skills. Some of the skills and knowledge you will gain include:

  • Developing your authentic singing voice

  • Looking after your voice through breathing techniques and support from your body

  • Improving vocal range, vibrato, diaphragm strength, harmonizing, vowel placement

  • Having fun and enjoying self-expression/creativity

  • Live performance techniques (build confidence, tips to aid nerves on stage)

  • Songwriting, DIY recording tips and tricks

During group lessons, singing students have the chance to develop long lasting friendships with the other students in the group! We not only learn to sing, we also learn to sing in time together, perform for others, gain important social skills, and more.

THE KARATE BELT SYSTEM:

In the group lesson adventures for students under 12 years old, The Buttery has developed a Karate Belt system for students to adventure through as they progress through the curriculum. When you first sign up, you will receive a white coloured wrist band in your induction pack. When you complete level 1, you will LEVEL UP and receive a yellow wrist band. Level 2 brings an orange wristband, and so on until you reach level 9 and receive the almighty black wristband.

ABOUT 1 ON 1 LESSONS:

1 on 1 lessons are especially recommended for advanced students with a focus on a particular genre or musical path, and for those who do not work well in groups.

In 1 on 1 lessons, we design a musical journey specific to you and your goals. From vocal techniques, pitch and harmony to writing originals, we are here to take you wherever you’re wanting to go. Weekly and fortnightly lessons available!

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE BUTTERY:

Alongside music lessons, The Buttery runs a bunch of extra adventures for our rad students such as:

  • An epic talent show each year where all students have the chance to perform

  • School holiday workshops and band camps.

  • Each year we take 4 student bands up to our good friends at Tallowood Studios in Mount Glorious to record an original song they have written in their band sessions

Watch out for information on these awesome opportunities on our website, Facebook, Instagram and emails.

MEET OUR SINGING TEACHER:

ASHA JEFFERIES - head of vocals

Hi! My name is Asha. I’m super passionate about teaching and encouraging humans how to find and develop their authentic singing voice. I believe music (and singing especially) is such a healing tool that anyone can enjoy!

Thanks to my very supportive parents, I was encouraged to live out my dreams and had the help from mentors to enter songwriting competitions and record music. By the time I was 14, I had some amazing experiences and opportunities under my belt - being booked to play at festivals like Woodford Folk Festival, Byron Bluesfest and Mullum Music Festival.

Since graduating from Music Industry College (a high school in inner Brisbane), I’ve toured my music nationally supporting artists like Julia Jacklin, Lime Cordiale and Thelma Plum. I've also won a Queensland Music Award, been a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition and have released music that’s been added to triple J and double J.

I’m super passionate about teaching and encouraging humans how to find and develop their authentic singing voice. I believe music (and singing especially) is such a healing tool that anyone can enjoy!

Simply the MOST AWESOME music school. A must for any kid who already loves music in any shape or form or who is dipping their toe in for the first time. The Buttery is all about the passion and love of music - no pressure, no exams, just pure enjoyment. The teachers are amazing, super-skilled artists themselves who connect with and inspire the kids in very real ways . The school also has the most cheerful and nurturing environment so my kids can’t wait to get there each week. Their skills in drumming, keys, singing and performing in front of audiences, have astounded us. Could not recommend more!
