About Buttery Group Guitar Lessons…

We teach our guitar lessons using a combination of activities involving The Buttery Curriculum and The Buttery Song Books which have been carefully crafted to provide consistently fun and exciting lessons while also allowing students to gain strong, in depth knowledge and skills on the guitar.

Things covered in our lessons include:

  • Chords

  • Timing

  • Learning how to play songs from an array of genres including rock, pop and funk and being able to improvise

  • Tuning your guitar and basic guitar maintenance

  • Basic music theory (don’t worry - its just the stuff you need!)

  • Developing long lasting friendships with the other students in the group.

  • Learn to jam, play in time together, perform for others, gain important social skills, and more!!

These lessons are taught on acoustic guitars. It is best if you bring your own guitar, but if you do not have one at first let us know and we will provide you with a nylon string guitar during lessons while you get a feel for it.

The Karate Belt System…

In the group lesson adventures for student under 15, The Buttery has developed a Karate Belt system for students to adventure through as they progress through the curriculum. When you first sign up, you will receive a white coloured wrist band in your induction pack. When you complete level 1, you will LEVEL UP and receive a yellow wrist band. Level 2 brings a green wristband, and so on until you reach level 9 and receive the almighty black wristband! It takes years to achieve such things, and following the black belt, you move on to specialised one on one advanced lessons.

Meet Our Woolloongabba Guitar Teacher… Mik Farnsworth-Sempf!

Mik (they/ them) graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the Jazz Music Institute in 2022. They have been playing guitar for 12 years now and enjoy various genres outside of jazz, including contemporary, classical, heavy rock, and metal to name a few. Alongside teaching guitar, Mik has a passion for composing, arranging, and performing with the Moreton Bay Big Band and other groups. Through their experience, Mik has also learnt how to play and teach standard ukulele, baritone ukulele, and banjo.

As a mentor, Mik strives to teach songs that students love to build their knowledge and to learn about their musical tastes. While students are learning their favourite songs, Mik likes keep students engaged by introducing new music that is similar to what they already know. Mik's favourite part of being a guitar teacher is when their students build a genuine love for learning music and feel just as pumped to come in for lessons as they are. Mik is super excited get to know their students and to spread the positivity and fun that music offers in their lessons!

Simply the MOST AWESOME music school. A must for any kid who already loves music in any shape or form or who is dipping their toe in for the first time. The teachers are amazing, super-skilled artists themselves who connect with and inspire the kids in very real ways . The school also has the most cheerful and nurturing environment so my kids can’t wait to get there each week. Their skills in drumming, keys, singing and performing in front of audiences, have astounded us. Could not recommend more!
