A Little More Info on the Good Times Choir...
The Buttery Choir runs for blocks of 8 weeks at a time, each block honing in on a particular theme. During these 8 weeks, we will get together every Tuesday night for an hour of singing our hearts out to some of our favourite tunes. We will journey through our carefully selected repertoire, singing multiple part harmonies, and getting down together, having a laugh and making beautiful sounds.
A Little More Info on the Vocal Workshops...
If you're interested in developing your singing voice, come along to the workshops before the choir to learn about harmony, breath and free tone production through supported vocal practices. Choir members' singing techniques will develop through kinesthetic awareness exercises, and connecting the mind and body as we sing.
Our Philosophy and Reasons for Creating the Choir...
The Buttery Choir is a place of learning, fun and letting go of our insecurities while at the same time developing the art of singing and harmony. It is a place of safety and comfort for people of all walks of life, and a place where we can feel ok to adventure into what our voices are capable of, allowing space for us to make mistakes but then be guided into learning how to sing in perfect harmony. Then at the end of the 6 weeks, there we are, eyes closed, singing ‘If you wanna be my lover’ by Spice Girls with a room full of new best friends.
Our Choir Master...
Siobhan is a singer, songwriter and voice teacher at The Buttery Music School. She has been performing in various projects and as a solo artist for the past ten years as a singer, guitarist and fiddle player. Siobhan first started directing choirs at The Coffs Habour Regional Conservatorium when they needed someone to direct their children’s choir. She quickly discovered how rewarding it was to pass on the pure joy one feels when singing in harmony and has developed an approach to directing that encompasses development of voice technique and learning through repertoire. Above all, Siobhan is intent on creating a environment that is supportive, fun, relaxed and celebrates all voices. .
Our Rhythm Master...
Alongside Siobhan will be Jaymee Watkin, drum teacher at The Buttery Music School. She will be joining us to keep the rhythm AND the good times flowing. Jaymee has spent the last decade performing and in the recording studio as drummer and backing vocalist for Pop princess Emma Louise, as well as numerous bands of varying genres. Her latest project is soul disco trio, Buttercats.
Our Final Product...
Half way through the 8 weeks, we will check in with the group to talk about a final product. You can choose to perform a live performance to an audience (at either the West End Markets, an Aged Care facility, a fete or event that’s taking place at the time, or any other venue that strikes us as perfect for the group) or a live video, filmed in a splendid location (such as a hall, theatre or studio). You can also absolutely choose to have no end product at all, if the journey is all you're after.
